The Source of The World is in Us
This single paragraph below from ACIM Chapter 12 Verse 7 repeats yet again the same simple description of how we have tragically trapped ourselves in a masterful illusion that is almost impossible for our minds to accept… not because our mind is incapable of accepting… but because it was specifically built to not see the truth of it. If the ‘truth shall set us free’, then seeing and accepting the truth of this simple but preposterously unacceptable idea will free us from enslavement in a false world. But we have to be willing.
Our minds are split, literally, between the Holy Spirit and the ego. We are in constant connection with God through the Holy Spirit, and this cannot be threatened in any way. We are still as God created us, in our ‘real’ mind. Our minds are literally split into love and hate… the Holy Spirit and the ego. This split is so completely intolerable that we literally projected what is unacceptable to us…our hate and conflict… into a physical world outside of us. The world we walk about in and inhabit, live, breathe eat and sleep in, is a creation of our own minds. By projecting it outside of us, by obscuring it’s source, we ‘think’ we can escape the responsibility for it and use it as a focus for the ego’s hate inside of us. We have literally projected what we do not want to what appears to be ‘outside’ of us, rather than dealing with it directly.
There are two emotions, love and hate. Love is within, and what we see in this world is various shades of hate. We cannot change the world we see by acting on it directly outside of us, as that is the level of effect only. Change must come from the level of cause, which is within and in our thoughts. That’s why the Holy Spirit’s remedy for this impossible situation is to see everything as either ‘love’, or a ‘call for love’. The subtle implication here represents a total reversal of thought, a change from outward projection of our hate to a recognition that what we see outside of us is us, symbols of our inner thoughts.
As Krishnamurti said, ‘you are the world, and the world is you’. We cannot change the world, but we can change ourselves by changing our thoughts. But we are not even asked to do this, instead we are asked to simply turn our thoughts over to the Holy Spirit to guide. Our efforts and not to try in any way to change our minds…. but only to be vigilant in recognizing the barriers we put in place to not see what we are doing.
Truth is, and it’s recognition requires only that we remove the barrier’s to its presence. That is the meaning of ‘be vigilant only for God and his kingdom’. This why it’s essential that we be aware and watch all of our thoughts… we don’t need to try to change them… but only become aware of them.
A Course in Miracles: Chapter 12 Verse 7
If only the loving thoughts of God’s Son are the world’s reality, the real world must be in his mind. His insane thoughts, too, must be in his mind, but an internal conflict of this magnitude he cannot tolerate. A split mind is endangered, and the recognition that it encompasses completely opposed thoughts within itself is intolerable. Therefore the mind projects the split, not the reality. Everything you perceive as the outside world is merely your attempt to maintain your ego identification, for everyone believes that identification is salvation. Yet consider what has happened, for thoughts do have consequences to the thinker. You have become at odds with the world as you perceive it, because you think it is antagonistic to you. This is a necessary consequence of what you have done. You have projected outward what is antagonistic to what is inward, and therefore you would have to perceive it this way. That is why you must realize that your hatred is in your mind and not outside it before you can get rid of it; and why you must get rid of it before you can perceive the world as it really is.
